I think the move, though undesirable, is healthy for us.

So how do you guys want the new forums at SC:L to work. n00bonic's suggestion is basically what we have, except the lore discussion all goes in the SC2 forum. Any other suggestions? I'm willing to do a bit of messing around so we can get it right the first time around.

I agree with noobonic. Your new site is hot and all, but not very conduscive for a forum. Blizzforums is just superior in many respects. The 100% width, the defining avatars and signatures, and easier to digest color scheme that's very pleasant on the eyes, and a reputation system that encourages responsibility and socializing.

I'd be sad to see this place go as I've grown quite fond of it over the past year.

Why does the lore stuff go in SC2, exactly? I mean, I know a lot of lore stuff is relevant to the development of the new game, and gets referenced a lot, but at the same time I don't know if I want the SC2 discussion cluttered up with "how is Protoss babby formed" questions which would normal go to a dedicated Lore board.

In other words both SC2 and SC/BW boards would be friendly to applied lore discussions (EG how the lore relates to new units/abilities etc) but I think there is a place for a dedicated theoretical lore board which deals with pure storyline issues etc.

It belongs in SC2 because all lore now has to be compared to StarCraft 2 canon. If we ever get to the point where it gets cluttered with "how is Protoss babby formed" questions then we'll make a new forum. There's just not that much lore discussion going on. We can try out a specialized lore board (both applied & theoretical) if enough people think it's a good idea.

Yeah, I know this thread is mostly about organization but it would be great to hear some feeback from the team about some of these issues. Particularly reputation - does the new software support such a thing? Getting that kind of feedback on posts is a lot of fun.

Now that the width issue has been fixed the SC:L forums are really pretty good. The only issue is that unlike BlizzForums there is not a super-clear demarcation between posts so you can instantly see who said what. It's all done with blank space and understated background images which is a little harder to read. Sorry to nitpick but I'm sure you guys don't mind constructive feedback right?

Yeah, you're probably right. That's probably another reason it makes sense to merge SC/BW discussion and strategy together, unless conversation really kicks up over there.

Look at it this way -- people can still discuss the game to a degree, but it will be small and just enough to please those here, whereas SC:L will have the most organized forum action and discussion. I'm positive we'll have tons of n00bs on the new forums once SC2 is finally released. The forum that remains here will just cover the entire SC universe: all games, all lore, all everything.

I made a SC lore forum as a sub-board of SC2 discussion. We'll see how it works.

I think the main starcraft II forum should be the general discussion forum, and the gameplay discussion forum should be created after the beta starts...and used for actual gameplay discussion, rather than suggestions and theorycrafting.. IMO

That actually makes a lot of sense, Santrega. The only problem I have with that is that after the Beta starts MOST of the discussion will be about actual gameplay, balance, etc, so it's maybe not the best idea to push that to a sub-forum since it will be where most of the action happens.

It could solve problem of no SC discussion on Blizzforums.

We still need it so that SpaceDominator can make Blizzard Gaming Night events here in the main core of it... you do realize that he made new forums just to be able to make those events?
