It'd be kinda lame if you could just take the thing out with lock down... "Wow, I saved up my resources and spent alot of time getting this mothership... and... what's that? A ghost?" *LOCKDOWN* *DEATH*

It would be very lame and that why lockdown will have no effect on the mothership.

It's predictable that most likely the mothership is immune to a simple lock down. I mean come on .. it is 'a mothership'. Honestly I think the unit is retarded and is part of that idiot Justin Browder's doing. It's going to ruin Starcraft if there are no strong counters to it.

Planning on FRPP dual cat back exhaust, GT take off rear fascia , GT take off rear axle with limited slip diff and T-LOK
CAI+TUNER...unsure of what CAI to get.

Dont be an ass and call people idiots I love the mothership and thats one of the reasons im looking forward to the game. Let me put this in bold for you cause apparently you didn't get the memo... we havent seen much of anything yet! Only 4 things have been confirmed. They already said there will be things to counter it.

Right, I mean it can black hole entire air squadrons, slow down (more like negate) ranged attacks , and uhh instantly obliterate ground units?

Don't be an ass and call people idiots? Justin Browder has worked on that joke RTS 'Battle for Middle earth' and some command and conquer games. Those are on the polar opposite of Starcraft. And they put him for lead designer for a billion dollar project.


"we haven't seen much of anything yet" . Oh even worse, what other sick C&C logic will Browder storm up? Terran EMP storms and Zerg Erosion acid storms? In line with a bloody mothership that has a counter spell to everthing (if not all at once, it still does).

Remember, the Mothership is uber late-game tech, and will take a ton of minerals/gas to build. That is why it is so powerful, if it falls, you are screwed, as there goes a huge amount of time and money. The other races will be able to counter it, but not as easily as just using lockdown. Heck, have some faith, Blizz knows that SC2 has a lot to live up to.

if lockdown is still in the game it would be a "hard counter" and that's why you would bring a "counter" to their "counter" to your mothership which is how starcraft works. your talking about making an exception to what is starcraft just because it's gonna cost a pretty penny and you can only make 1. you know EMP would equally be as devastating as lockdown.

1 thing to counter another, i think that maybe the motherships shield ability would stop a lockdown missle.

For some reason you guys have the idea that because Lockdown would make the ship useless, it'll be taken out. You must also realize that the Protoss aren't going to have just one, and that Lockdown hasn't been that devistating before. The point of lockdown is exactly what you guys are afraid of, rendering a unit useless.

The best counter against the Mother Ship is a Dark Archon with Mind Control

That's why I never create one if there is another Protoss in the game. If we still have Dark Archons...

I don't think the mothership will really be an issue for experienced players. From the descriptions we've gotten so far, it seems that the mothership will be very very late game. Assuming equal economy, at that stage it won't be Mothership vs Army, it'd be:

Mothership + Protoss Army

VS

A bigger enemy army (due to resources that went to building mothership instead)


At that point even if there isn't hard counters to the mothership, with a bigger army you can just soft-counter it.

Time-bomb:
Focus fire on the mothership, when Time Bomb goes up switch targets and hammer on rest of the protoss forces. When Time Bomb expires resume owning mothership.

Planet Cracker:
micro away ground units, and throw all the anti-air you have against the mothership. From the gameplay video it looked like the mothership can only move slowly and had to take down her shield to activate this ability.

Black hole:
don't bunch together large air-units, it was bad practice in SC1 anyways. Somebody posted in another thread that black hole costs 150e and ALL REMAINING SHIELD, so when blackhole is over the mothership probably won't get to live long either.

so imo it'd still be a matter of player skill
